Sigiriya is a stone fortress found in Sri Lanka. Surrounded by moats and gardens, the frescoes and gardens provide a rare look back into ancient history.
A chain of four islands in the Indian Ocean known as Socotra has made the list of World Heritage Sites. Being disconnected from the mainland for centuries has encouraged the development of rare and unique animal and plant life found nowhere else on earth. One third of the 800 different types of flowers fit into this category as do the dragon’s blood tree.
