As the home to one of the oldest civilizations on Earth, Egypt has been a popular vacation destination for ages. Five thousand years of history makes exploring Egypt a continually exciting sort of experience. Egypt, in its long history, has witnessed the birth of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, the reign of the Roman empire, the first written records, and innumerable discoveries in science, philosophy, and math. Simply wandering the streets of Egypt holds an atmosphere of discovery. So much cultural heritage is right at your fingertips in Egypt, and a travel passport can get the whole experience started.

Many of Egypt's most popular monuments lies along the Nile River, meaning a cruise down the Nile is an excellent way to experience them for yourself. Other experiences like riding in a glass-bottomed boat provide a much drier alternative to seeing the Nile up close and personal. The cruises that navigate the Nile are known for their beautiful and comfy cabins, delicious food and wine, helpful service, and plenteous amenities. So onboard one of these cruises, you get to see some of the most famous historical sites in the world, all while enjoying the opulence of a luxurious cruise.

Snorkeling and diving in Egypt is a truly breathtaking experience. The huge diversity of aquatic life and the famous crystal-clear clarity of the Red Sea combine to create a beautiful underwater environment perfect for exploring. The soft, powdery sand and the unpolluted turquoise water make adventures beneath the waves perfect. Old shipwrecks and ancient walls and buildings create an underwater adventure that will amaze you. Huge fish, stingrays, turtles, and all types of coral live in the Red Sea, ensuring that you can get face-to-face with some of Egypt's aquatic inhabitants.

It's hard to think about Egypt without thinking about the Pyramids of Giza. One of the pyramids, the Pyramid of Khufu, is the only one of the seven ancient wonders of the world left standing. Many believe these pyramids were built as tombs for great kings and nobles in order to ensure a comfortable transition to the afterlife. Guests are able to explore the chambers of the pyramids, which are crafted out of two million two-ton blocks of limestone. It remains a mystery how these blocks were moved, only further adding to the mystery surrounding the ancient Egyptians.

Pyramids aren't the only interesting historical sites in Egypt. Another famous landmark is the site of the Abu Simbel temples. These temples, located in the Nile River Valley, were crafted almost three thousand years ago. One temple, guarded by four huge statues, was build in order to honor Ramses II. The other was built as a temple to the sun god, but also as a monument to Ramses' wife, Nefertiti. This spectacular sight can only be appreciated first hand, along with many more spectacular destinations. Other sites your must see are the Temple of Karnak, the West Bank, and Saladin Citadel. These sites are not only ancient and historical, but also always breathtaking.

If you're looking to satisfy your history itch, Egypt is a prime location to do it. With thousands of years of history behind it, this country promises to continually provide new discoveries at every turn. So contact your local U.S. passport agent and obtain your passport to travel, because an exciting journey back in time awaits you in Egypt.
