 A lot of the female citizens of the United States of America leave things that are important, like when to renew your passport, until it is too late or becomes a problem to fix. Expiration of ones passport is not something that one should not prepare for. You do not have to be at the verge of going on a holiday before you start running around to renew.

 The renewal process for an American passport has become as simple as fixing nail polish as it is quite standard. However, it is dependent on the number of years it has used. It might turn out to be something that you use your mail to do or the process might require your presence.
 

Process Choices
The very first step is to find out which process will be more convenient for you. Then you need to visit the nearest passport facility. This might be the post office or the courthouse. There are locations that you can find when you go to the website of the United States Department of State.
 

Online Service
The application form (DS-11) can be easily found online and you need to fill in the details and complete the form with a signature. All the applications required for the renewal can be downloaded from the Department of State website.  They can also be pick up at your nearest passport office site.
 

Citizenship Proof
They will require that you provide proof that you are indeed a citizen of the country either with the expired passport or a birth certificate before they can renew it for you. Without either of these, they will ask for a letter of record that can be issued to you by the state indicating that you do not have a birth record. 
 

Identity Proof
After this has been done, you can give them proof of identity. The types of documents used to renew are a naturalization certificate, a valid driving license or a government ID. If it so happens that any of these are not available, another way is to give them your social security card or a bank card followed with someone who has an ID who can stand as a witness for you.
 

Photo Requirements
You will now need two head-shots which have to be recently taken and not more than two-by-two inches.  These pictures are a very important part of the renewal process.  There are specific requirements concerning size, pose and they way they are affixed to your form. They must have the right color and the right background, too.
 

Expired Passport
As easy as this might sound, it is very wise to follow all the requirements and to renew your passport before it expires. Getting a passport in a hurry, such as with the 24 hour passport, might not be the best way to go at times. So be on the safer side and do it on time. It will save you a lot of headache and will help you get other things done.
