Travels With Children: How To Stay Sane

It can feel like your peptic ulcer has made a reappearance at the mere thought of bringing a kid on a road trip. Unfortunately, this may be unavoidable, as airline prices have spiked. With the economy struggling to get back on its feet, pinching a penny here and there can allow you and your family to take a much needed vacation. Canada and Mexico, as our closest neighbors, make great options for a very different kind of family adventure. Especially with the introduction of the U S passport id card, you and your family can take a fun trip without the hassle of airports.

On car trips as a kid, I really enjoyed doing crafts and coloring. I could just colored away for hours, and the length of the trip would seem a lot shorter. Also, big felt pieces in all sorts of shapes with holes in them, along with some shoe laces, made the best little girl "sewing kit." My little brother, on the other hand, loved the big building blocks. The best part of these blocks is the amount of assembling and disassembling possibilities.

I also had puzzles to do that my mother had provided me with. She would give me a difficult one that she would "grade" after I had completed it. I always got A's, although I doubt I got everything right, but this fostered in me a love of learning. As I got older, she would give me whole books of puzzles that taught basic addition and reading, and I definitely felt so proud of myself after I completed a page. These trips really do present a great educational opportunity.

You should also consider bringing some electronics into the car for your kids. The Leapfrog Leapsters game is hand-held and very portable, and is educational without being boring. Another good idea, although it's not quite as technologically advanced, is recording your child's very own audio books. Using a tape recorder, record yourself reading some of your child's books, and let your child listen to them. You can even change the names of the characters to let your child play his or her favorite part in the story!

You should know that it's easy to get passport cards. To do this, you must take a trip to your local passport office, or even apply for the card online. Passport cards are so much cheaper than passports, and you get almost the same benefits. A passport card allows you to travel by land or sea instead of airplanes, and they let you travel to many places around the United States. Having these cards lets your family go on a great vacation without putting a hole in your wallet.

Don't waste time thinking about how to entertain your children if you're going on vacation. Whether you want to take a Mexican siesta or explore some beautiful Canadian landscapes, You can use a passport card to go to Mexico and Canada, and you can obtain one of these by either applying online or visiting a pass port office. Some of my best memories come from traveling with my family, and you can give these memories to your very own children with an awesome family road trip.
